Were getting old. Thats true on a personal level, of course every second youre sitting there surfing the internet, youre getting one second older. But its also true in a global sense. The average age of humanity is going up, and going up pretty rapidly, especially in North America, Europe, and many parts of Asia. A report from the United Nations shows that the median age of the world population has risen from 23 in 1950, to 30 as of 2015. And by 2050, the median age for the entire world will be 36. In more developed countries like the United States, these trends are even steeper. The median age has increased from 23 in 1900 to 30 in 1950 and finally up to 37 by the time of the 2010 Census. The population of elderly Americans, those 64 or older, is expected to more than double by 2060, going from about 46,000 as of 2014 to 98,000 in 2060. Thats a huge change. So, we owe it to ourselves to ask: Why are people getting older, and what will that mean for how our society works? [The

Using a logarithm to transform the response variable may make sense if we notice either or both of the following when checking the assumptions for linear regression: The residuals appear skewed, violating the normality assumption. This can happen if the relationship we are trying to model is non-linear.
We prefer natural logs (that is, logarithms base e) because, as described above, coefficients on the natural-log scale are directly interpretable as approximate proportional differences: with a coefficient of 0.06, a difference of 1 in x corresponds to an approximate 6% difference in y, and so forth.
The natural log is the logarithm to the base of the number e and is the inverse function of an exponential function. Natural logarithms are special types of logarithms and are used in solving time and growth problems.
Natural log is often abbreviated as log or ln, which can cause some confusion. In some contexts (not in logistic regression), log can be used as an abbreviation for base 10 logarithms. However, if used in the context of logistic regression, log means the natural logarithm!
Taking the log of one or both variables will effectively change the case from a unit change to a percent change. This is especially important when using medium to large datasets.
log: (in math) An abbreviation for logarithm. logarithm: The power (or exponent) to which one base number must be raised multiplied by itself to produce another number. For instance, in the base 10 system, 10 must be multiplied by 10 to produce 100. So the logarithm of 100, in a base 10 system, is 2.
Ratios often behave better when logged, so long as both numerator and denominator are positive, and their analysis is often simpler.
