The Energy Commission of Ghana, established by the Energy Commission Act 1997 (Act 541), has enacted new regulations on electrical appliances and renewable energy products. This initiative aims to regulate the market and prevent Ghana from becoming a dumping ground for substandard and used appliances. The regulations serve four primary purposes: 1) to avoid purchasing undesirable appliances, 2) to reduce electricity demand and associated generation costs, 3) to protect the environment, and 4) to safeguard public health from air pollution linked to increased power generation. The commission has facilitated the passage of 19 laws to support these objectives.
