Hi There. This is Michael from MSA with some more nonprofit quick tips. Today were going to talk about how to write an effective press release. The first thing you need to do is think of an attention-grabbing headline and format it in bold, capitalizing the first letter and any proper nouns. Start off your first paragraph with the city youre in, the date, and some sort of attention-grabbing first line, also known as the grabber. The release should be written as youd like to see it appear in print. Make the journalists job as easy as possible, providing clearly the who, what, when, where, why, and how. Theyre very busy. Theyll appreciate it. If theres a quote you can use, include it in the press release. This is a great way to add a personal touch and make the story come to life. At the end of your release, its a good idea to include an about section introducing your organization and your work, so the journalist can get a better idea of who you are. Be sure to include your

How to Write a Non Profit Press Release Remember the Goal. The goal of a non profit press release is to help news organizations write a story about your event, campaign, or impact in the community. Hook the Reader. Tell Your Story. Dont Exaggerate. Contextualize Your News. Keep SEO in Mind. Use Images!
First Paragraph Most journalists know that the basic format of a press release includes the five Ws. Who, when, what, where and why information must be the core of any news story. In a news story, these facts are included in a concise and clear way.
Headlines should be clear and specific, telling the reader what the story is about, and be interesting enough to draw them into reading the article. Avoid repetition - Headlines summarize; they dont repeat the lede.
Attention-Grabbing Headline Examples for Social Media Can Twitter Predict the Future? Do Media Vultures Perpetuate Mass Shootings? Do Some Foods Explode in Your Stomach? Is the Life of a Child Worth $1 to You? Suicide of a Hacker. Suppose This Happened on Your Wedding Day! The Child Who Won the Hearts of All.
(At the bottom of the press release, it is common to include three ### symbols or --30-- to signify the end.)
If you need some help concocting catchier headlines, here are a few simple tricks: Use numbers to give concrete takeaways. Use emotional objectives to describe your readers problem. Use unique rationale to demonstrate what the reader will get out of the article.
Headline used to grab the attention of journalists and briefly summarize the news in one to six words. Dek a sub-headline that describes the headline in more detail. Dateline contains the release date and usually the originating city of the press release.
The best headlines for a press release should meet the following criteria: Highlight what is new, a first, innovative, impactful or disruptive about your business (this is the news angle) Include the How, What, Why, When and Where of news. Be fewer than 10 words long.
