can i refuse an exit interview yes i dont see why you would have to necessarily do an extra interview if youve already quit you definitely could refuse an extra interview people definitely can lose the position during an exit interview now theres a lot of questions about extra interviews i would recommend not saying um very negative things about the firm in your extra interview the reason i would recommend doing that is because you may want to go back to that firm in the future and if you want to go back you can very quickly burn bridges and permanently burn bridges if you say bad things in your extra interview the next question should you be truthful yes but again you dont want to burn bridges so if you say very negative things then that can also hurt you as well so you need to be very careful there and then sometimes people will be leaving because of different reasons so you need to be careful if you were leaving for what the reasons would be but you should be very careful

Exit interviews are seldom mandatory, and a departing employee can opt out if they dont feel comfortable meeting. Its OK to refuse an exit interview or not to answer questions. If you dont feel comfortable or like youre in a good mental space to answer questions about the company, then dont, Owens said.
Exit interviews help leaders dial into their companys current direction. Plus, they generate questions that recruiters can use in the hiring process to discern whether a candidate is a good fit. Exit interviews can uncover a multitude of issues that help you improve your processes and procedures.
7 Reasons Why Exit Interviews Are Bad News for Outgoing Employees 1) A Good HR Department Is Approachable. 2) A Risk of Reputation. 3) A Burning of Bridges. 4) Dismissing Constructive Feedback as Personal Grievances. 5) Ulterior Motives. 6) The Confidentiality Illusion. 7) Its No Longer Your Concern.
Its best to refrain from treating an exit interview as a session to complain and rant about what frustrated you on the job. Instead, prepare a list of the top areas where you think the company could improve and share these constructive comments in a calm manner.
General Employment Liability Risks Departing employees can, and do, raise allegations during exit interviews that create increased employment liability exposure. This often happens when a departing employee is interviewed by a human resources representative.
Everything discussed during exit interviews must be kept confidential. HR should assure exiting employees that interview records are confidential. HR should tell employees how theyll present results to management (e.g. in aggregate form or anonymous feedback.)
Approach with caution: how to survive an exit interview Decide what you want to get out of it. Approach with caution. Secure your reference and leave on a positive note. Live in the real world. Resist the temptation to offload: talk facts, not opinion. Be happy you are leaving for pastures new.
You can offer negative feedback if its done clearly and respectfully. These interviews arent the time to unload your anger and pent-up feelings, either. Honesty is fundamental in the workplace, but you should remain respectful and constructive.
