As it applies to functions and variables in a shared object, visibility refers to the ability of other shared objects to call a C/C++ function. Functions with default visibility have a global scope and can be called from other shared objects.
By default access to members of a C++ class is private. The private members are not accessible outside the class; they can be accessed only through methods of the class. The public members form an interface to the class and are accessible outside the class.
On Linux, symbols have a default visibility that allows them to be loaded at runtime. If multiple libraries export the same symbol, this can lead to undefined behavior. In real terms, this means segmentation faults, deadlocks, or other quirky behavior can occur.
Symbol is one of the basic terms when talking about object files, linking, and so on. In fact, in C/C++ language, symbol is the corresponding entity of most user-defined variables, function names, mangled with namespace, class/struct/name, and so on.
With respect to visibility, there are five main types: flight visibility, ground visibility, prevailing visibility, runway visible value, and runway visible range.
Linker symbols have a name and a value. The value is a 32-bit unsigned integer, even if it represents a pointer value on a target that has pointers smaller than 32 bits. The most common kind of symbol is generated by the compiler for each function and variable.
Protected A protected member is visible from within the class and from the subclasses inherited from this class, but not from outside. It is prefixed by the symbol #.
Java has four levels of visibility: public, protected, (default), private. The meaning of these is as follows: public - makes your methods accessible to any other class. protected - makes your methods accessible to any class in the same package OR any subclass of your class.
The default constructor is a public no arguments constructor. To be more specific it has the same access level as the class, so public in a public class, private in a private class, etc.
The default visibility is known as package-private (though you cant use this explicitly), which means the field will be accessible from inside the same package to which the class belongs.
