What should be included in employment verification letters? Employer address. Name and address of the company requesting verification. Employee name. Employment dates. Employee job title. Employee job description. Employee current salary. Reason for termination (If applicable)
Employers are not required by law to respond to these requests, but most choose to. Some employers require that employees give permission to respond to these requests. Generally, employers do not face any legal issues if they respond truthfully and in good faith.
The E-Verify process begins with a completed Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. Next, E-Verify participants create a case in E-Verify, using the information from their employees Form I-9, no later than the third business day after the employee starts work for pay.
Employers must complete and sign Section 2 of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, within 3 business days of the date of hire of their employee (the hire date means the first day of work for pay). For example, if your employee began work for pay on Monday, you must complete Section 2 by Thursday of that week.
The final paragraph of an employment confirmation letter should include the contact details of the individual responsible for verifying the employees information. Conclude the work verification letter with your signature, full name, and job title.
Within 3 business days of starting work for pay, you must present to your employer documentation that establishes your identity and employment authorization. For example, if you begin employment on Monday, you must present documentation on or before Thursday of that week.
Employers may choose to place an employee on a leave of absence for a reasonable amount of time to allow the individual time to obtain the required documentation, or employers may terminate an employee who fails to produce the required documents within three business days.
