My name is Cara Richardson. Im with the West Tennessee Behavior Supports Project from the Lambuth campus. In continuation of our Quick Tips video series, today were going to talk about Behavior Contracts. Using Behavior Contracts can be a helpful strategy to increase the positive behaviors we all want our children to display. A home Behavior Contract is a written agreement between you and your child or your adolescent. The main parts of a Behavior Contract include the desired task or behavior, the agreed-upon rewards and consequences, and signatures from all parties involved. It is important that the contract answers the specific questions of who will do what, what will be done and when, and how well or how frequently it should be done. In this example, who is involved in the contract? Juan and Dad. What behaviors or tasks are to be completed? Call the police. - This sends the message to teenagers that it is not okay to leave home without permission. - The police are responsible for the safety of citizenry; your child is not safe if you do not know where he is. - Parents are responsible for what happens to their child even when he is not at home.
When surveyed, the average curfew for 17-year-olds, set by parents or guardians, was 9:00-10:00 on school nights and 11:30-12:00 (midnight) on weekends. A 17-year-olds curfew may look much different depending on jobs, sports, and sense of responsibility.
Here are seven ideas to help make the endings of a fun time just as sweet as the beginnings. Discuss the rules before you arrive. Let your kids pick a fun way to leave. Leave 15 minutes earlier than you normally would. Give an early warning. Add a ritual. Give them a job for the way home. Ask children for ideas.
There are many possibly causes for a teens refusal to attend school, including anxiety, depression, social anxiety, problems with peers or teachers, bullying, or exposure to a traumatic incident at school that causes school avoidance.
Give Fair Warning If possible, show your child the actual impact of their behavior so that they know that your requests are not arbitrary. An example of this is to let your child know that if they dont do something you have requested, it affects others. For example: Please go brush your teeth right now.
A contract that is mutually developed and agreed on by parents and their children provides a way of outlining expectations as well as consequences or rewards. This process can be very satisfying for both the children and the parents.
What to Do Encourage open communication. Let your child know that youre open to hearing what they have to sayeven if you disagree. Set communication ground rules. While different opinions are welcome, rudeness is not. Be empathetic. If possible, bring your ex into the conversation. Express your fears.
Heres what to do if your child has run away from home. Call the Police Immediately. As soon as you learn that your child has run away, report them as missing to your local police. Ask Police to Enter Your Child Into the NCIC. Call Child Find of America. Spread The Word. When They Return Home, Address the Problem.
