Turn the display of formatting marks on or off Go to File Options Display. Under Always show these formatting marks on the screen, select the check box for each formatting mark that you always want to display regardless if the Show/Hide. button is turned on or off.

How do I disable the markup in Microsoft Word from appearing on open? Open any Microsoft Word document. Select File Options Trust Center Trust Center Settings Privacy Options. Clear the selection for Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving. Click OK. Click OK to close out of the menu.
You can hide existing tracked changes temporarily by choosing No Markup in the Display for Review box. That helps you see what the document will look like when its final, but changes will show up again the next time anyone opens it.
