Light scratches are acceptable as long as they dont interfere with the drivers line of sight. There must be no holes, chips or cracks. The most common lease repairs are: Scratches on paintwork. Dents or chips on the bodywork. Burns, rips or tears to the upholstery or carpets. Damage to the wheels.
Any damage that is beyond normal wear and tear is considered excessive. Some examples might include tears or burns on upholstery, missing or broken equipment or large dents or scratches on the exterior of the vehicle.
Do I have to remove decals and bumper stickers before returning a lease? Placing a sticker or decal on any auto paint can damage the vehicle, which will undoubtedly be at your expense (Wear and Tear) upon lease return.
When you lease a vehicle, the lessor can charge you for excessive wear and tear. Minor things like scratches smaller than a quarter on the exterior may not incur any extra costs and theyre likely to fall within normal wear and tear. Anything bigger probably means paying more cash out of pocket when you return it.
What Steps Should You Take if You Damage your Leased Car? Contact your insurance agent to find out what damages are covered under your policy. Read your service and maintenance clauses in your lease agreement. Use original manufacturer replacement parts. Get a pre-inspection for the vehicle you are about to lease.

Scratches: Its not unusual to have some scratches on a leased car over time, and minor scratches will not typically incur any additional charges. Dents: If the vehicle has a dent that is smaller than a quarter and requires no paint, it should be fine to return it as-is.
Down Payment The down payment requirement is often hidden in the fine print of a lease agreement, and it is also referred to as a capitalization cost in many instances. And, the larger the down payment, the lower the monthly lease payments.
