While AKC registration application forms provide for more than one owner, we recommend that co-ownerships be avoided. It has been our experience that purchasing a dog outright is preferable.
To request a change: Click Online Services on the second toolbar on the AKC website. Click the Register a Dog Online hyperlink. Click the Certificate Change Request hyperlink, which displays the AKC Certificate Change Requests page.
A dog bill of sale should include: Names and addresses of the buyer and seller. The price paid for the dog or puppy. A description of the dog, such as breed, color, markings, sex, age, names of its parents if it is a purebred, etc.
Mail your application. Submit your completed Name Change Authorization form with the required payment, and your dogs current AKC Registration Certificate via the mail. Send all materials to the AKC headquarters at: The American Kennel Club / 8051 Arco Corporate Drive, Suite 100 / Raleigh, NC 276173390.
I. Using the Certificate Change Request. This link enables you to request corrections to your registered dogs name, color, sex, or markings. You may also correct your name and contact information.
