Lying when filing a claim: Lets say a storm damages your roof. If you tell your insurer that your homes siding was also damaged by the storm, even though it was already damaged before the storm hit, youre committing concealment.
What Is Concealment? Concealment from an insurance perspective refers to the hiding of facts or information that will directly affect the insurance rate, contract or benefits paid. It can refer to nondisclosed information or misrepresentation of fact.
The insuring agreement usually states the perils insured against, the person(s) and/or property covered, the property locations, and the period of the contract.
An insurer issues a disclaimer when the type of claim that occurred and the circumstance(s) under which it occurred are arguably covered by the policy, but an important tangential factor prevents the claim from being covered.
