As it has already been mentioned before, private comments are only accessible by the commenting student and teacher. After opening the assignment, the student can see the private comments on Google Classroom on the right side of the tab, right below the submitted work.
When you leave a submission comment (sometimes called an assignment comment), it is visible only to people who have the ability to grade assignments. This means that your instructor(s) can see the comments, but other students cannot.
Class comments is a setting that you can control in the settings cog wheel at the top right corner. If you dont want the students to comment, you will have to select Teachers can only post and comment in the Stream section of the settings page. I am attaching a reference for you. I hope this helps.
Click the eye icon in the upper left corner. Select the Hide Grades option. To hide grades/comments for a particular section (or sections), select the Specific Sections option, then select the desired sections. Click the Hide button.
Mute a student from their post or comment Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign In. Sign in with your Google Account. Click the class. Point to the post or comment from the student. Click More. Mute student name. (Optional) To delete the comment, check the Also delete this comment box. Click Mute.
Students can see your feedback as comments after you return their work. In Classroom, open the student work (details above). Select the passage or file that you want to comment on. Enter your comment and click Comment.
