Ticks are attracted to carbon dioxide and sweat Just like mosquitoes, ticks are sensitive to the CO2 you exhale and will find that attractive. They also sense body heat and the lactic acid that comes from sweating. Since you cant stop breathing or giving off body heat, these are things that really cant be controlled.

Some Emergency Physicians prefer a surgical technique to remove the tick and its attachment to the skin to ensure that no fragments of the tick mouthparts remain within the patient. Clean and prep the skin. Inject 0.25 to 0.50 mL of local anesthetic solution subcutaneously immediately underneath the ticks mouthparts.

Ticks are prone to dessication, and so if its dry, they hunker down below the leaf litter, where its more moist, and re-hydrate and conserve energy. Research from the 80s suggests that adult and nymphal ticks were the most active during their study, which was from 6 a.m. 9 p.m., but most active from 6 a.m. - noon.
Under the arms. In and around the ears. Inside belly button. Back of the knees.
After the tick comes off, a little red bump may be seen. The red bump or spot is the bodys response to the ticks saliva (spit). While its sucking blood, some of its spit gets mixed in.
Showering within two hours of coming indoors has been shown to reduce your risk of getting Lyme disease and may be effective in reducing the risk of other tickborne diseases. Showering may help wash off unattached ticks and it is a good opportunity to do a tick check.
