Life Insurance Beneficiaries Trusts are not considered individuals; therefore, life insurance proceeds paid to trusts are generally subjected to estate tax. Also, the proceeds payable to a trust may not qualify for the inheritance tax exemption provided by some states for insurance payable to a named beneficiary.
The major disadvantages that are associated with trusts are their perceived irrevocability, the loss of control over assets that are put into trust and their costs. In fact trusts can be made revocable, but this generally has negative consequences in respect of tax, estate duty, asset protection and stamp duty.
General Instructions Write only one beneficiary on each line. Make sure that you write the full names of all beneficiaries. For example, if you name you children as beneficiaries, DO NOT merely write children on one of the lines; instead write the full names of each of your children on separate lines.
Name a Trust Provide the following information on the beneficiary designation: The full name of the trust as it shows on the trust document. The date the trust was created. The name of the trustee, followed by the word trustee, or if you cannot provide a trustee, ETF may accept another contact person.
A primary beneficiary is any person or entity designated by the trust to receive its assets. In general, being a primary beneficiary means you receive distributions from the trust during the trusts existence.
To leave property to your living trust, name your trust as beneficiary for that property, using the trustees name and the name of the trust. For example: John Doe as trustee of the John Doe Living Trust, dated January 1, 20xx.
Specific trusts are available for disabled persons and such trusts are flexible as they are able to adapt to the beneficiarys changing circumstances and any future needs that might arise. The trust can be created during your lifetime or through your Will so that it takes effect on your death.
Trustees. The trustees are the legal owners of the assets held in a trust.
