Below are some common questions from our customers that may provide you with the answer you're looking for. If you can't find an answer to your question, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Tell them what bothers you. If that doesnt work, figure out how to firmly but politely invite them to move out. If necessary, you may have to take legal action to kick out a roommate who doesnt move out or violates a major agreement. If that isnt an option, you may have to move out yourself.
Regardless of whos on the lease, if your roommate is acting in a way that makes you feel unsafe, you should call the police. The law considers being violent or stalking another tenant just cause for eviction, allowing you to evict the perpetrator with only three days of notice.
What should I include in my roommate agreement? Paying for Communal Items. Cleaning. Noise. Guest Rules. Food and Mealtimes. Pets. Temperature.
A good rule of thumb is to not pay more than 30% of your monthly income towards rent. If you divide the rent in half, and the number is more than 30% of one partners monthly salary, then this method might be a good choice for you to split expenses fairly.
Each roommate should pay the same percentage of the rent as they have personal space. If one roommate has 50% of the private space and two other roommates have 25% each, divide rent by the same amount (or rearrange how much space each roommate has access to).
To get an appropriate calculation for how much each roommate should pay depending on the size of their room, take the square footage of each room and divide by the total square footage of the apartment. This will give you a percentage for the size and value of each room, which you can apply to the total cost of rent.
If your roommate is on the lease, the answer is no. Your roommate has as much right to occupy the space as you do. If you want to keep the nonpaying roommate (or anyone else) out by changing the locks, you must get your landlords permission, and youll have to pay the cost.
Split Rent 50/50 This method works well if you and your partner have a similar income and budget and can afford the payments while also keeping up with other financial obligations. It can feel the most fair and equitable, though it can also cause tension if one partner is stretched thinner financially than the other.
Make sure you mention all of the great things about living together; its important to find something positive. But now that it has come time to renew, tell your roommate that you think it would be best not to live together again and say why be honest here.
If all rooms are relatively similar in size and have the same amenities, splitting rent evenly is the best method. You just divide the rent by the number of roommates and youre done.
