hello this is Chris lab of the information lab Im just going to talk you through a quick tip which allows you to filter using table calculations to effectively hide parts of a visualization that you might be unable to remove through ordinary filtering so lets show you the problem first of all Im going to bring in my subcategories and Im going to put some of sales across here so Im using the standard sample superstore data set and Im going to bring my region on to color now Im going to produce a percentage calculation using the quick table calculations to do a percent of total Im going to come down to % of total in the quick table calculations and just select that then Im going to come back up and compute that over my region that will give me a hundred percent of the total sales and show how each region contributes to that 100% so across each subcategory so now if I want to give my use of the choice of which region they see in this view just to see the percentage contribution o

In general, if a column is grayed out, it means, the column is not used anywhere and option Hide All Unused field is selected along with option Show Hidden field. Just un-check the Show Hidden Field option.

If youre using an extract, theres an option at the bottom of the dialog to Hide All Unused Fields. If your data source has a ton of dimensions and measures, this will hide them and exclude them from the extract that Tableau creates. This helps reduce the size of the data and improves its performance.
To hide or show field labels, select Analysis Table Layout Show Field Labels for Rows or Show Field Labels for Columns.
Simply select the fields you want to hide then right-click and select Hide from the menu.
