General Rule: Avoid using a calculated field multiple times in another calculation. Referencing the same calculated field multiple times within another calculation will result in performance issues.
Hiding unused fields in Tableau Simply right click on the field and select Hide. Note, you can quickly hide all the unused fields by selecting Hide All Unused Fields on the drop-down menu at the top right corner of the data pane.
To hide specific columns without filtering the underlying data, we can filter on LAST(), INDEX(), FIRST(), or RANK() and use table calculations to display the correct values. The below example uses the Sample - Superstore data source.
Drag Dimensions on row shelf i.e., Auto Industry, Field A Field B. Drag Measure on label in Marks field. It will create a tabular format where all values will be shown at first. In order to get only selected values, drag the calculated field to Filters shelf and check TRUE and FALSE values - Apply - Ok.
If youre using an extract, theres an option at the bottom of the dialog to Hide All Unused Fields. If your data source has a ton of dimensions and measures, this will hide them and exclude them from the extract that Tableau creates. This helps reduce the size of the data and improves its performance.
Hiding columns in Tableau To hide a column simply right click on the column and select Hide. Note, you can show any hidden column by right clicking any of the visible columns and choose Show hidden data.
On the dashboard, make sure to select the container that has all the filters within it and selecting Add Show/Hide Button. This will create a button that hides the entire container where the filters are on. You can alt click to toggle hiding or showing the filters.
Simply select the fields you want to hide then right-click and select Hide from the menu. All hidden fields are tracked in a new profile card called Hidden Fields, letting you easily unhide any fields that youd like to see in your table.
