In effect, a deployment group is just another grouping of agents, much like an agent pool. Environments: Environment represents a collection of resources such as namespaces within Kubernetes clusters, Azure Web Apps, virtual machines, databases, which can be targeted by deployments from a pipeline.
In YAML pipelines, you can set variables at the root, stage, and job level. You can also specify variables outside of a YAML pipeline in the UI. When you set a variable in the UI, that variable can be encrypted and set as secret. User-defined variables can be set as read-only.
You add a deployment group job in the editor by selecting on Process channel in the Tasks tab of a release pipeline. The properties for the deployment group job are displayed when you select the job in the editor. Deployment group jobs can only be used in release pipelines. They cannot be used in build pipelines.
In order to pass variables between your build and release pipelines you can create/export a file containing your variable on your build agent. This file should be exported as build artifact and then downloaded on the release pipeline. When you run the pipeline you will be asked for a parameter.
What is a Grouping Variable? A grouping variable (also called a coding variable, group variable or by variable) sorts data within data files into categories or groups. It tells a computer system how youve sorted data into groups.
A deployment group is a logical set of deployment target machines that have agents installed on each one. Deployment groups represent the physical environments; for example, Dev, Test, or Production environment. In effect, a deployment group is just another grouping of agents, much like an agent pool.
Once the output variables are defined, you can then reference them just like any other pipeline variable. One of the most common methods is using macro syntax. To reference the foo variable defined above, for example, you could use $(foo) or in the form of [originatingtask name][variable name] .
In the Repository Manager, click Tools Deployment Groups to view the existing deployment groups in the Deployment Group Browser. Click New to configure the deployment group in the Deployment Group Editor. Enter a name for the deployment group. Select whether to create a static or dynamic deployment group.
versus Variables Now Parameters do only exist in YAML Templates, and like Variables they are settable by the User. Here is a 👉Gotcha: Unlike variables, parameters are only set once, at the beginning of the build run. Parameters are used to dynamically construct the entire Pipeline based on custom logic.
Pipeline variables are values that can be set and modified during a pipeline run. Unlike pipeline parameters, which are defined at the pipeline level and cannot be changed during a pipeline run, pipeline variables can be set and modified within a pipeline using a Set Variable activity.
