The Full Access permission allows a user to open the mailbox as well as create and modify items in it. The Send As permission allows anyone other than the mailbox owner to send email from this shared mailbox. Both permissions are required for successful shared mailbox operation.
Without a license, shared mailboxes are limited to 50 GB. To increase the size limit to 100 GB, the shared mailbox must be assigned an Exchange Online Plan 2 license. The Exchange Online Plan 1 license with an Exchange Online Archiving add-on license will only increase the size of the archive mailbox.
Shared mailboxes differ from regular mailboxes, they do not have credentials by which you can access the mailbox. Instead, you are accessing the shared mailbox directly from your regular Office 365 mailbox via the Open another mailbox button.
The main difference between a shared mailbox vs. a user mailbox is that multiple people can use and respond from the shared mailbox using their own credentials, whereas a mailbox only has one username and password that works for access.
A shared mailbox in Office 365 is free and does not require a license. For example, emails that are always forwarded or delegated do not require a full user license. Instead, licensed user accounts can be granted either forwarding from the shared mailbox and/or delegation to the shared mailbox.
Assigning Licenses to a Group Go to the Azure AD blade and select Licenses. Next, select All products under manage and youll see a listing of the licenses available within your tenant. Select the license you want to work with (for this example, I selected E3) and then select Assign from the top of the menu.
Shared mailboxes usually dont require a license.
Shared mailboxes usually dont require a license. Follow these instructions to remove a license from a shared mailbox so that you can either assign it to a user or return the license so that you arent paying for a license you dont need.
Can I access to a shared mailbox with an unlicensed account? To access a shared mailbox, a user must have an Exchange Online license.
Microsoft paid cloud services, such as Microsoft 365, Enterprise Mobility + Security, Dynamics 365, and other similar products, require licenses. These licenses are assigned to each user who needs access to these services.
