Microsoft Graph provides access to data stored across Microsoft 365 services. Custom applications can use the Microsoft Graph API to connect to data and use it in custom applications to enhance organizational productivity.
The Microsoft Graph has two categories of permissions: application permissions and delegated permissions. Application permissions allow an app to act as any user, while delegated permission allows only signed-in users of the application. All permissions requested by Decisions are delegated permissions.
Delegated permissions are used in the delegated access scenario. Theyre permissions that allow the application to act on a users behalf. The application will never be able to access anything the signed in user themselves couldnt access.
Microsoft Graph PowerShell must be granted the Application. ReadWrite. All permission. The signed-in user must be granted the Global Administrator or Application Administrator Azure AD directory roles, or be owner of the target app registration.
Delegated permissions, also called scopes, allow the application to act on behalf of the signed-in user. Application permissions, also called app roles, allow the app to access data on its own, without a signed-in user.
What is Active Directory (AD) Delegation? AD delegation enables you to grant users the permissions to perform tasks that require elevated permissions without adding them to highly privileged groups like Domain Admins and Account Operators.
Delegated permissions, also called scopes, allow the application to act on behalf of the signed-in user. Application permissions, also called app roles, allow the app to access data on its own, without a signed-in user.
Permission types. Microsoft Graph supports two access scenarios, delegated access and app-only access. In delegated access, the app calls Microsoft Graph on behalf of a signed-in user. In app-only access, the app calls Microsoft Graph with its own identity, without a signed in user.
To review application permissions: Sign in to the Azure portal using one of the roles listed in the prerequisites section. Select Azure Active Directory, and then select Enterprise applications. Select the application that you want to restrict access to. Select Permissions.
Read application permission allows apps to read mail in all mailboxes without a signed-in user. By default, apps that have been granted application permissions to the following data sets can access all the mailboxes in the organization: Calendars. Contacts.
