Open Terminal . Enter ls -al ~/.ssh to see if existing SSH keys are present. Check the directory listing to see if you already have a public SSH key.
Instructions (Windows) Invoke PuTTYgen on your local Windows host. Leave the Parameters at their default values. (RSA keys, 2048 bits.) Click Generate. Click Save public key. Click Save private key. Click Yes when presented with the PuTTYgen warning about a blank passphrase.
With Puttygen on Windows Open Puttygen and click on Load in the Actions section. Then, select your PPK file. Your key has been imported. Then, go to the Conversions menu and select Export OpenSSH key. Name your private key and save it. In the main window, select Save public key in the Actions section.
A key length of 4096 bits is recommended for establishing a secure connection between two machines. The following diagram shows how to create a RSA key pair of 2048-bit: It will prompt you to select a location for the keys that will be generated. By default, the keys are stored in the users home directory, the ~/.
Open the Manage Public Keys dialog box by clicking the ellipsis button () on the right of Public keys in the User Properties window. Click Generate a new keypair for this user and add it to the list to create a new keypair.
