As the name implies, Print to PDF is a feature that allows you to save a file in a printable PDF format. If you are using one of Microsofts printable applications, such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, you can use the Microsoft Print to PDF feature to instantly create a PDF document of the Microsoft application file.
The easiest way to flatten a PDF is Print to PDF. To do this, go to FilePrint, select the printer option from the menu, and then select docHub PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF (see figure below). Click the Print button and name the file. See the NIH website for more information.
Why should I flatten PDF documents? you might ask. If you print your PDF as is, you will only print the layer that is visible onscreen as opposed to all visual elements from various layers. To avoid this issue, you want to flatten your PDF file for print.
The Microsoft Print to PDF printer does not have an ability to append the PDF file to an existing PDF file. If you want to append (insert after) a PDF file created with Microsoft Print to PDF to an existing PDF file, you can use the Win2PDF Print to PDF merge options.

Using Google Chrome to flatten PDF files Open a Google Chrome window and drag your PDF file into it. Click on the Print icon in the top-right corner. In the new window that pops up, go to Destination. Choose Save as PDF from the drop-down and click on Print to flatten the file.
Make a backup copy of your PDF file Save As. Open the copy and choose Advanced PDF Optimizer Save. Select Discard User Data. Select Discard Hidden Layer Content and Flatten Visible Layers and click OK.
