If one or both sides of the slider come off the track, the zipper doesn't necessarily need replacing, the slider just needs reattaching. To do this, you find the 'bottom' of the zip. The part that is, typically, the end closest to the floor when you're wearing the garment.
Top Stop. The Top Stop is the metal or plastic piece secured to each side of the zipper tape above the teeth. The Top Stop prevents the zipper slider from coming off the top of the zipper.
Insertion Pin: Only found on a separating or "jacket style" Finished Zipper, the insertion pin is located at the bottom of the zipper on one side of the zipper tape, opposite the starter box.
A zipper can get back on track as easy as gently moving the zipper up and down on the track to get it readjusted. Try a spritz of WD-40 to oil it up. If it still doesn't budge, use a pin or needle and stick it into the zipper or along the track to get it to move or force it back together.
Use pliers to slightly stretch the openings of the metal stoppers and wiggle them free. Once you've removed the slider, push the zipper's teeth together tightly, realigning the track evenly. When you've realigned the teeth, put the slider back on the track one opening at a time.
In most cases, a broken, stubborn or stuck zipper can be remedied using just some household lubricant, a pair of pliers, and a little patience.
