[Music] in this video were going to have a look at the reading order and how a screen reader reads a pdf were going to look at two aspects in parallel one is the reading order which is this tab that looks a bit like the letter z and the other is the tags tags are really important for a screen reader you may remember when jaws read this front page it read east yorkshire and then it read something else lets have a look and see in the reading order what else there is on this page i find the reading order section really good for seeing what has been tagged so i can see that this title has been tagged thats the first thing but then number two is um is nothing number three second edition thats fine but then number four is also nothing number six is nothing and they will appear in the tags the tags is what is read by a screen reader and it might be that thats all been hidden so just click on the arrow to open it and then usually its set out by page but in this case not the good thing

To tag a PDF in Acrobat, choose Tools > Accessibility > Add Tags To Document. This command works on any untagged PDF, such as one created with Adobe PDF Printer.
If the PDF still doesn't work after updating Acrobat Reader, go to Help > Repair installation. Restore previous version. Another method to repairing a damaged PDF is restoring it to a previous version. Head to the location where the PDF is saved, right click on the file and select Restore previous versions.
Open the untagged PDF in Acrobat. Open the Tags panel. If the document is untagged, you will see a message that reads "No tags available." Click the options menu (or right-click the "No Tags Available" text) and select "Add Tags to Document." Acrobat will automatically generate tags for the document.
PDF tags make it possible to identify content as headings, lists, tables, etc., and to include alternate text for images. Without tags, none of these accessibility features are possible. Unfortunately, not all PDFs are tagged, and many document authoring tools are not capable of creating them.
Tagged Content First, check to see if the Tagged PDF issue, under Document, has failed or passed. If it failed, right-click on it and then click Fix. Sometimes this will also fix the Tagged Content issue.
Add a new tag by opening the options in the navigation pane “Tags” (small rectangular icon with two list items) and select “New tag”. In the displayed window you can select the correct tag and confirm with “OK”. Click on the newly created tag and select the text with the selection tool.

How to unlock a PDF to remove password security: Open the PDF in Acrobat. Use the “Unlock” tool: Choose “Tools” > “Protect” > “Encrypt” > “Remove Security.” Remove Security: The options vary depending on the type of password security attached to the document.
Right-click with the mouse on the tag you want to change and select “Properties” from the menu. The desired tag can be selected in the “Tag” tab and the “Type” dropdown field.
