Yes. With your file open, go to Format Elements (Mac) or Format Elements Settings (Windows). Click Apply a Template and you will get a list of various formats. Select the format you want and OK your way back to the script.
Plays written with Final Drafts stageplay formats might not look the same as play scripts found in books after the play has been produced but are completely acceptable for stageplays in production.
Yes. Screenplays are written in 12-point Courier, or a slight variation (Courier Prime, Courier New, Courier Final Draft, etc). Courier is a fixed-pitch font, meaning each character and space is exactly the same width.
The 8 Elements Of Script Formatting Scene headings (Sluglines) Action. Character name. Dialogue. Parenthetical. Extension. Transition. Shot.
Page Margins The top margin needs to be one inch. The bottom margin, and your right- or outside margin can vary from that by up to a quarter-inch. The left, or inside, margin needs to allow space for the three-hole punch binding for when your screenplay is printed, so that should be about one-and-a-half inches.
Finally, you can increase or decrease the top and bottom page margins: Go to Document Page Layout and click on the Margins tab; Raise or lower the top or bottom Text and/or Header/Footer margins.
Final Draft Click the Paragraph tab, click the element whose margins you want to alter and then click the up or down arrow next to the Left or Right margin under INDENTS. Note that the increments are measured from the left edge of the page -- a left indent of 1.5 is 1.5 from the left edge of the page.
To update your SmartType list and remove non-working characters and locations, touch the Tools icon at the lower right: Touch Rebuild SmartType: Choose Rebuild: The lists will be refreshed and any SmartType items that are not found in the script will be removed.
How can I turn off the SmartType pop-up list? This is the SmartType feature in which your Characters, Scene Headings, Transitions, etc. are stored. You can turn off the pop-up windows without disabling this feature: Go to Document SmartType Options and uncheck the Show SmartType Window box.
The classic structure is to divide a screenplay into three acts: the set-up, conflict, and resolution. Countless stories adhere to this format, and theres a reason why it has been the go-to structure for films pretty much since cinematography began.
