The CSV filetype is a plain text file that holds lists of data and is useful for moving information between different software. Sometimes when opening a CSV file in Microsoft Excel the data appears jumbled such as in this example. This data is from an Atlas Copco MTF6000 controller and contains torque verification data. By examining the text I can see that the data is separated using semicolons, not commas. This would explain why Excel isnt properly displaying the data. To fix this issue we must open the Text Import Wizard. In older versions of Excel this is done by opening the CSV file using the File Import action, but in this newer version we must manually open the file by selecting File, then opening it from the disk or recent files list. Now that the Text Import Wizard is open we must tell Excel to use the Delimited data type which separates the text into fields using certain characters. Select Delimited and click next. We determined that this Atlas Copco log file uses semicolon t

Method 1: Open the CSV file using Notepad. Click File -- Save As. In the dialog window that appears, select ANSI from the Encoding field. Click Save. Open this new CSV file using Excel. Non-English characters are displayed properly.
Resolution Open the CSV in Notepad. (Dont use Excel to open the CSV file because the quotation marks may not be visible in Excel). On the Edit menu, select Replace. In the Find what box, type , leave the Replace with box blank, and then select Replace All. Note. Save the file, and then import it to Microsoft 365.
CSV files that Employee Email outputs when you export data are in UTF-8 format. However, by default Microsoft Excel uses ANSI encoding which causes many special characters such as Chinese Characters/logograms to display incorrectly. Change your settings within Excel to resolve this issue.
How to change the field separator (delimiter) in Excel when saving as a CSV file In Microsoft Windows, click the Start button, and then click Control Panel. Open the dialog box for changing Regional and Language settings. In the dialog box, look for the List separator setting. Enter the desired list separator.
Chances are, you will run into special characters within your data. So if youre working with CSV, what special characters are actually supported? Technically, all of them! There are no specified limits of what characters can be used in a CSV file.
Convert Excel to CSV using OpenOffice Open your Excel document with OpenOffice Calc. Click File Save as and choose Text CSV (. csv) from the Save as type drop-down menu. Next, you will be asked to define encoding and delimiters. If your goal is the CVS format that correctly handles special characters, then choose:
Under the Data tab, navigate to Get External Data From Text. In the pop-up window that opens, select the CSV file you downloaded. Click Get Data. From the File origin: drop-down menu, select Unicode (UTF-8).
Incorrect Delimiters: Errors occur when the delimiter in the CSV file doesnt match the expected delimiter of the importing system. Fix: Ensure the delimiter used (comma, semicolon, etc.) matches the systems requirements. You can often specify the delimiter during the import process.
