Prior to copying an AMI, you must ensure that the contents of the source AMI are updated to support running in a different Region. For example, you should update any database connection strings or similar application configuration data to point to the appropriate resources.

How do I change the AMI of an existing instance?

Update AMI Navigate to AWS Console Services EC2 Auto Scaling Launch Configurations. Select a LC Copy launch configuration. Click Edit AMI. Click Create launch configuration.

How do I know if my AMI is encrypted?

Paste the AMI ID into the search box, and then press ENTER. 5. Select the snapshot, and then on the Description tab, verify if Encryption is set to Encrypted or Not Encrypted. If the snapshot is encrypted, note the KMS Key ID and KMS Key ARN.
