For optimal lighting during Zoom meetings, aim for even illumination across your face without any shadows. Utilize either ring lights with adjustable color temperature or indirect light from a front-facing angle to achieve a balanced and professional look. Avoid pointing the light directly at your eyes.
Considerations Black out shades or diffusion blinds to reduce natural light. Avoid reflective blinds, wall and table surfaces. Dark table finishes and warmer wood grains are preferable. Avoid glass tables and walls or etch glass to reduce glare. 20-60% reflectance on tables and chairs. 40-60% reflectance on walls.
Light from in front, not behind Webcams automatically record and adjust to the brightest source of light. And if that light is behind you, youre no longer the focus. Avoid being backlit by making sure youre facing toward, not away from, a window or another light source.
Good lighting can make a big difference in how engaging and professional you appear online! Natural light is best, so sit facing a window. Avoid having bright lights or windows behind you, as they can create glare and make you hard to see. Use a lamp or ring light in front of you to illuminate your face evenly.
To produce the best lighting for video calls: Dont place any sources of light behind you. Lighting for video calls should be placed behind the camera. If the lighting is behind you, then the camera will automatically focus on that light and darken your face.
Position Your Light Source in Front of You The first rule of good lighting is to ensure the subject is lit from the front and not behind. Webcams typically adjust to the brightest light source in the frame. If you are covered in shadow, your webcam will focus on the bright background, leaving you out of focus.
Adjust for low light Zooms low light settings allow you to combat poor lighting conditions during remote video conferences by brightening your video in dark environments. In the Zoom desktop client, click your profile picture and then click Settings . Click the Video tab. Select the Adjust for low light check box.
Two or Three-Point Lighting Ideally, you would want to use daylight bulbs (4500 Kelvins and above) for these two points to mimic natural sunlight. Place each light on the left and right of the webcam and have them pointing inwards at a 45 angle with you positioned in between.
