Select one or more legend items to modify in the Contents pane. Right-click the selected item or items and choose Properties to open the Element pane. Adjust the legend item properties in the Element pane. If you have multiple legend items selected, only properties common to all the selected legend items are available.

Change the alignment of the legend. In the Format Legend pane, click Text Symbol. tab, expand Position. For Horizontal alignment, select one of the options available.
On the Options page, click on the Show properties button under Legend Items. Change the Patch Width and Height and the symbol items will size ingly. If you have a mix of points, lines, polygons, click on the point legend item in the contents pane.
You can turn on the legend title and change the title text by completing the following steps: In the Contents pane of a layout, right-click the legend and click Properties.
