You must complete an Application for Missouri Title and License (Form 108) and submit it, with the incorrect title, for a corrected title to be issued. This transaction may be processed at any Missouri license office or by mail through our central office.

Sellers, other than Missouri licensed dealers, must submit a completed Notice of Sale (Form 5049) Document or Bill of Sale (Form 1957) Document form to report the sale.
Title Penalty Missouri law requires owners to apply for title within 30 days, or 60 days when purchased from qualifying dealers executing an Agreement for Delayed Delivery of Certificate of Ownership (Form 5830), based on the purchase date of the vehicle.
Missouri Bill of Sale Requirements Vehicle sales must be reported to the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) within 30 days. You can use forms provided by the DOR, or you can create your own.
If this occurs, a duplicate title must be obtained by the current owner and the incorrect title should be enclosed with your request. Any corrections due to the misspelling of information may be corrected by drawing a line through the incorrect information and inserting the correct information.
When you apply for a title, you must submit a bill of sale or Notice of Sale (Form 5049) for the vehicle that you sold and the purchase (or contract to purchase) and sale dates must be within 180 days of one another. You do not have to purchase a like vehicle to qualify for a sales tax allowance.
To gift someone a vehicle, you must transfer the vehicle title to their name and create a bill of sale. Selling a vehicle for $1 instead of gifting it could result in your recipient paying sales tax based on the cars fair market value its better to stick with the official gifting process.
