A good letter of recommendation highlights your academic or professional achievements. A great letter gives the admissions committee at your dream medical school deeper insight into the person you are and the doctor you may become.
The AMCAS program does not need your letters of evaluation to verify your application. Therefore, you may submit your application even if your letters have not yet arrived in the AMCAS application.
A letter of recommendation for medical school should fill at least one entire page (usually 400 600 words) and contain an introduction, up to 4 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. If the letter is being submitted by mail or fax, it should also include a standard letterhead.
5. Can you reapply to medical school with the same letters of recommendation? Yes. But AMCAS doesnt hold them on file, so youll have to resubmit your rec letters with your new application.
The vast majority of med schools do not read letters of recommendation until every other part of your application has been submitted. That means they will not read your letters until they receive: Your primary application. Your secondary application.
Your medical school recommendation letter should be exceptional. Dont ask for a letter from someone who doesnt describe you as an excellent candidate for medical school. Your referral should be able to talk about your best skills, your most outstanding achievements, and your virtuous character.
A medical school update letter is an extra bit of you for the admissions committee to read and learn about. A medical school update letter or medical school letter of intent gets added to your file, and many (but not all) schools will re-examine your application upon receipt of these documents.
Remember that admissions committees want to accept people, not just a collection of GPAs, MCAT scores, and premed extracurricular activities. Your personal statement and other written materials must therefore clearly highlight the specific qualities and experiences that would make you an excellent physician.
