if youre an independent artist whos about to work with a producer or if youre a producer whos going to work with an artist then you need to have some kind of written producer agreement in place between you before you begin recording so even if you only manage to agree and understand a few of the key basic points between you then make sure you get those written down because that is going to be way better than having no agreement at all weve noticed lots of Independent Artists and producers working together without any written agreement in place between them now this can result in disagreements further down the line the danger is that youll both have preconceived ideas of what you think are standard Clauses for a contract and these expectations will vary from one person to the next and certainly from one country to the next with violence is even more exaggerated for artists and producers who at the beginning of their careers and probably have minimal experience then your ideas of w

That producer fee is a flat fee to cover their recording work in addition to any back-end royalties. So, a typical indie deal might be, say, $1,500 to record the songs plus 20 percent of the net royalties. Now, for major label deals, producers points might range anywhere from 3-7 points.
The other common way is to take a percentage of the song. Typically producer percentages are anywhere from 8%-20%, depending on a variety of factors (how much work you do, which label you work with, how greedy the artist/manager is, etc).
Most times, when producers are paid royalties, they dont start receiving them until the recording costs are recouped. Most times producers receive a percentage of around 3 to 5% of the records sale price or 20 to 25% of the artists share. This can vary depending on the producer and on the recording artist.
Producer Fees Fees tend to start around $15,000 to do a track for a major-label-affiliated pop or RB/hip-hop artist; a superstar-level producer might charge up to $75,000 (or higher), but $30,000 to $40,000 is considered a good range for one who is well-established and working with a major-label act.
In order to set the price of a musical production or mix, it is important to follow these 6 steps: 1Assess fixed and variable costs. 2Include your salary as a producer in the price. 3Rate better your best services. 4Identify what makes you unique. 5Communicate better why they have to choose you.
If youre just starting out, you may want to charge $200-400 per song, depending on your skill level and the size and quality of your portfolio work. If you dont have a portfolio (other than your own songs), you may want to offer one or two clients pro bono work, just to get some experience and portfolio items.
The producers royalty rate commonly ranges anywhere between 1% to 5% in the recordings total earnings, but in practice the rate may differ and depends on what is agreed between the producer, artist and label.
