Health Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) Generally health FSAs are not required to be reported on an employees W-2. The exception to this rule is when an employees deductions for all benefits are less than the amount elected for the health FSA.
Box 10 of your W-2 shows the total amount of dependent care benefits that your employer paid to you or incurred on your behalf. Amounts over $5,000 are also included in box 1. You must complete Part III of Form 2441, Child and Dependent Care Expenses to figure the amount, if any, that you can exclude from your income.
The Tax Cut and Jobs Act (TCJA) eliminated unreimbursed employee expense deductions for all but a handful of protected groups. The TCJA restriction lasts until 2026, when miscellaneous itemized deductions are slated to return for all employees.
Employee expense deduction You can write off employee wages you paid throughout the year. You can also deduct employer contributions you made to employee benefits. Dont: Claim more than the 2% rule on employee expenses. Employee costs are allowable business expenses that fall under miscellaneous deductions.
The amount of a health FSA must be included in the aggregate reportable cost on the Form W-2, but only if the amount of the health FSA is more than the salary reduction elected by the employee for the plan year (i.e., the amount an employee contributes to their FSA during the plan year) as noted in example 1 below.

An FSA is an employer-sponsored spending account that allows employees to set aside pretax earnings to pay for eligible health care or dependent care expenses. Pretax funds are deducted from each paycheck and automatically deposited into an FSA account. Employees decide how much to contribute, tax-free, for the year.
An entry of code W in box 12 of your W-2 indicates to the IRS that you have an HSA. The FSA deductions are reported either in box 10 (for a dependent care FSA, as in your case) or in box 14, as information for the taxpayer for other types of FSAs.
Box 14 is used to report amounts that dont belong in other boxes on Form W-2. Employers can use it to report additional tax or income information for filing or informational purposes. Some employers use box 14 to report amounts deducted for State Disability Insurance taxes or union dues that may be tax deductible.
If you want to save money by reducing taxes on W-2 income, there are a few options. Contribute to Retirement Accounts. Pay Into a Health Savings Account (HSA) Charitable Deductions. Earn The Real Estate Professional Status. Use the Short Term Rentals Tax Loophole. Investing in Working Interests in Oil and Gas.
