Writing For Deposit Only in the endorsement box above your signature is called a restrictive endorsement. This is a more secure way to endorse checks since it ensures that the check can only be deposited into an account bearing the payees name. You also cannot cash the check or take a portion of the amount in cash.
Restrictive endorsement The most common restriction is for deposit only. Unlike qualified endorsements, banks receive this type of endorsement all the time.
Restrictive Endorsement An endorsement is restrictive which restricts the further negotiation of an instrument. Example of restrictive endorsement: Pay to Mrs. Geeta only or Pay to Mrs Geeta for my use or Pay to Mrs Geeta on account of Reeta or Pay to Mrs. Geeta or order for collection.
Look on the back of the check for the endorsement line or box. Typically, there will be text indicating Endorse here. Sign your name in the indicated space exactly as it appears on the Pay to line on the front of the check.
Special or full endorsement To do so, write Pay to the order of [full name] before your signature. That individual can then either cash or deposit the check. It offers flexibility but also requires trust in the person youre assigning the check to.
Restrictive Endorsement Write For Deposit Only on one line. Write the account number on another line. Sign your name on a third line.
To void a check, write the word VOID across the front in large, permanent letters using black or blue ink. This indicates that it cannot be used for payment.
If someone gives you a check and theyve spelled your name incorrectly, endorse the back of the check with the incorrect spelling, and then sign your name with the correct spelling on the back of the check.
