In a book, too much white space can look awkward. Manuscript format is to indent the first line of each new paragraph (and to double space). Dont skip lines when doing this, unless youre indicating a larger break in the story. This is the industry standard, so editors and agents are expecting it.
The average book proposal itself will be between 15 and 30 pages. But book proposal length also includes those sample chapters, and this is where individual projects can land all over the map. If your book proposal is shorter than ten pages without sample material, however, its probably too short.
Use A Standard Font (Times New Roman or Arial) They both work great. Dont use anything else for your manuscript. Note: your actual book may end up with a different font. There are some fonts that read better in book format.
Indented paragraphs with NO space between paragraphs. If you want to add emphasis or change topics or time frames, definitely go ahead and add an extra line between grafs to flag that. But only do this deliberately and sparingly so you dont look like youre writing a blog post or an email.
