[Music] my sophomore year of high school is when I tore my first ACL at a meet down in Cincinnati I heard a crack and I was like oh its just a crack you know not nothing a big deal about it I was actually on the floor which was my first event I saw three other events take on feet so I competed the entire meet with a partial torn ACL I have good communication with the coaching staff here and with the parents at the gym and they let me know right away that Ravenna had a knee injury so I was able to evaluate it very soon after it happened and it was a little odd because it was a partial injury and we gave her a lot of treatment options and she did a great job but eventually unfortunately she needed surgery she came in with a swollen knee that was unstable and and based on her history was concerning for an anterior cruciate ligament or ACL tear and after talking with her and examining her knee unfortunately we confirmed that diagnosis is either I have surgery or not do gymnastics again w

The decision to proceed with a second ACL surgery depends on the patient, the condition and stability of his or her knee, the desired activity level and imaging findings. Patients are advised to seek out a specialist with ample experience in revision ACL surgery for the best chance of a good outcome.
There are four commonly used grafts for ACL reconstruction. Patellar tendon autograft. The surgeon removes the middle third of your patellar tendon and pieces of bone (bone plugs) from your shin and kneecap. ... Hamstring tendon autograft. ... Quadriceps tendon autograft. ... Allograft.
Types of ACL Surgery Autograft. Your doctor uses a tendon from somewhere else in your body (like your other knee, hamstring, or thigh). Allograft. This type of graft uses tissue from someone else (a deceased donor). Synthetic graft. This is when artificial materials replace the tendon.
Treatment for a failed ACL may require staged procedures, and could involve removing old fixation devices, and possibly bone grafting to correct widened or poorly positioned bone tunnels or sockets. In some cases, a realignment may be necessary so that the knee is in alignment with the rest of the lower body.
Primary ACL reconstruction is recognized as a successful procedure, but failure has been shown to occur in approximately 10% of patients.
During ACL reconstruction, the surgeon removes the damaged ligament and replaces it with a segment of tendon — tissue similar to a ligament that connects muscle to bone. This replacement tissue is called a graft. Your surgeon will use a piece of tendon from another part of your knee or a tendon from a deceased donor.
Symptoms of ACL graft failure Patients may complain of a limp while walking and a feeling of looseness in the knee. There may be knee pain that may increase with activities. Patients may complain of knee stiffness, knee swelling, or instability while activities of daily living.
Most often, surgeons recommend ACL reconstruction after it tears. For this procedure, the surgeon will remove the damaged ligament and replace it with a new one, called a “graft,” which can be made of tissue from the patient's own kneecap tendons or hamstrings—or from a deceased donor.
Surgeons rarely perform ACL repair. Often, there is no blood supply for the ligament to heal. However, ACL repair has gained traction in the last 30 years as an alternative to reconstruction. That's because technology has allowed surgeons to develop techniques like BEAR surgery.
In general, there are three main graft options: a patellar tendon autograft, a hamstring autograft, and an allograft. An autograft comes from the patient's own body, whereas an allograft comes from a cadaver donor.
