The dent repair cost may range from $50 to $2,500. Although that's a broad range, most small dents that are roughly an inch in size may cost around $50 to $125. Small indentations may come from a flying rock or piece of hail. Dents stemming from a collision are typically larger and cost $150 or more.
Extreme dents usually happen when your vehicle hits with something substantial at a quicker speed, or by a person just leaning on it. Severe dents often look unrepairable; however, with the conventional tools and experts, they can be fully corrected. Not all issues can be repaired with paintless dent repair methods.
First, heat the dent with the hairdryer approximately six inches away for about 30 seconds. Then cover the dent with a piece of aluminum foil and rub dry ice over it. The rapid change from hot to cold should make the dent pop out within a minute or so.
Small dents may cost $100 or less to fix. At this price, it can be a good idea to get it fixed if you're bothered by the dent's appearance or want to sell your car. But, doing it yourself may cause paint damage. Plus, even a repaired dent can result in rust down the road.
You Can Do It Yourself However, if you're willing to give it a try, in many cases you can fix your car's dents quite effectively yourself using some not very expensive dent-removal tools. But first, you must assess the damage to know what you're dealing with.
If a dent is small and there is no damage to the paint, some car owners may consider repairing it themselves. There are several do-it-yourself methods to fix dents using everyday household items. None of them are guaranteed to work, but they are all worth trying if saving money is a priority.
You Can Damage the Car's Paint One of the dangers of attempting to pull a dent out yourself is that you can damage the paint on your car. And unfortunately, having to do touch-up painting can increase the cost of a repair. The tools you use to suction out a dent can damage the paint if they stick to the car.
Is it worth it to invest in small dent repair? Yes indeed. Fast dent repair is the best way for car owners to prevent a minor issue from morphing into an enormous, expensive problem.
Not all dents can or should be suctioned out. If the dent is large, the suction method may not work. Additionally, if there are any cracks in the panel, the entire panel should be replaced, rather than having the dent removed.
Minor dents with a diameter ranging from 3 to 5 inches can be fixed using PDR. Even the more minor door dents and dings with sizes of 2 inches or less and medium dents of 5 to 10 inches long are possible to repair.
