Click on Number from the menu on the left of the Format Cells dialog box that appears. Uncheck the box labeled Use 1000 Separator (,) to prevent Excel from including commas in numbers with four or more decimal digits.
To force it to use a different delimiter, proceed with the following steps: Click File Options Advanced. Under Editing options, clear the Use system separators check box. Change the default Decimal separator.
To accommodate this case, press the Alt+Decimal Separator keys on the numeric keyboard. This key combination switches the decimal separator between outputting a period and the decimal separator as determined by the Region setting. I have the same issue.
Click File Options. On the Advanced tab, under Editing options, clear the Use system separators check box. Type new separators in the Decimal separator and Thousands separator boxes. Tip: When you want to use the system separators again, select the Use system separators check box.
As far as I know, Excel takes that information from the system settings. You have to change the system-wide decimal separator in System Preferences. Go to Office Button found in the upper left (The Office Button is the circle with the Windows logo inside). Click Excel Options, to the lower right. Click the Advanced option. Uncheck the Use system separators checkbox.
When entering text fields (like Part numbers) using the numeric keypad, the dot is shown as a comma. The regional and keyboard settings in Windows are set to keyboard layout en-US, which in every other application results in a dot.
