Generally, once an individual has filed Form I-485 to adjust their status to that of a lawful permanent resident, the next step is to apply for employment authorization by filing form I-765 and to apply for advance parole travel authorization by filing Form I-131. It is common practice to apply for both employment authorization and advance parole at the same time.
