WordPerfect includes Bates Numbering for a single document or a collection of files. Bates Numbering is especially useful for labelling document collections with sequential numbering, for easy identification and retrieval. Lets start by adding Bates Numbering to a single document. Open the file in WordPerfect. Select Bates Numbering from the Tools menu. There are several options, but lets work with the Current Document option first. Click Next. Select the number of digits for your numbering. For example, 7000 would be 4 digits. If you would like a Prefix and Suffix, add them here. For example, if you would like to use CaseABCD, you would add CaseABCD as the Prefix and leave the Suffix blank. Lets quickly add a Prefix and Suffix. Make formatting choices by selecting position, font, size, color and more Click Next. Now select the Output type. For this single document, lets choose Original Folder. Bates numbering (also known as Bates stamping, Bates branding, Bates coding or Bates labeling) is a method of sequentially numbering pages with a reference number. A hand-operated Bates numbering device is used to stamp a number on a page, and the numbers will automatically advance after each stamping.

To remove Bates numbers from a PDF file: On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Marks group, click the arrow next to Bates Number and click Remove Bates Numbering. Click OK at the confirmation prompt, and the tool will scan the document and remove all instances of Bates numbering.
Then follow these steps to automatically add Bates Numbers to each page in the document set: Open the file. Click Tools. Select Edit PDF. Choose More. Click Bates Numbering and Add. Select Output Options to customize the serial numbers. Click OK.
