A tenancy agreement can normally only be changed if both you and your landlord agree. If you both agree, the change should be recorded in writing, either by drawing up a new written document setting out the terms of the tenancy or by amending the existing written tenancy agreement.
Your tenancy becomes periodic automatically if you stay past the end of the fixed term without a renewal agreement. A joint tenancy becomes periodic if any of the joint tenants stay on, unless theres a new agreement in place. A periodic tenancy continues on the same terms and you should pay your rent as normal.
As an example of an addendum, here is a clause that could be added to a tenancy agreement: The landlord and tenant agree to extend the tenancy by an additional month, starting on the 1st of April 2021. The tenant shall pay the rent on the 1st of each month, as agreed in the original tenancy agreement.

If your landlord does not respond or refuses to address the issue within a reasonable period (usually between 15-30 days), you can apply for a repair order through the Residential Tenancy Branchs dispute resolution service.
Both parties of the deal are allowed to start changing the initial agreement and suggest amendments through the Lease Amendment Form. For this initiative to be successful, both the landlord and the tenant should discuss the changes in detail and only then make them official.
