How do FIT payments work?

Under the Feed-in Tariff scheme (FITs), householders receive payments for the electricity generated by eligible installed systems like solar PV, wind, hydro turbines, or micro CHP. If you already have an eligible installed system that you are receiving FITs payments for, you are unaffected by the scheme closure.

Where do FIT payments come from?

These payments are based on meter readings that FIT generators submit to their FIT licensee.

How do you get paid for FIT?

FIT payments are made by your energy supplier quarterly from the date you become eligible for the scheme. Payments are made based on the meter reading you submit to your energy supplier also known as your FIT licensee. Unlike the new Smart Export Guarantee Tariff, FIT payment rates are set by the Government.

How long do you get FIT payments for?

Once youve started receiving FIT payments, youll receive them for up to 20 years. The rate you get will change in line with inflation in ance with the Retail Price Index (RPI).
