hey guys welcome back to Katy quick tips this is were you just gonna say so know this is episode 153 and in this episode were answering Brandons question whether or not you need to pull a permit when finishing your basement to pull a permit are not to pull a permit its always a big question when homeowners are finishing their basement and the simple answer is yes you should most municipalities will require permits for various work involved when finishing your basement but lets be honest not everybodys gonna do it so the second part of Brandons question is if you do or dont does it affect your resale value and realistically in most cases no it wont affect it much if at all what does affect it is the quality of craftsmanship because lets be honest you could have a really shitty finished basement with permits or a beautiful basement without one thing where it could affect it though is if youre selling your home in a sellers market where buyers have very few options theyll prob

Basement Finishing Permits Michigan requires a permit for basement finishes that involve cutting into walls or structural beams, alteration to points of egress, and moving existing and/or installing new electrical and plumbing systems.
There is a minimum ceiling height of 7 ft. The walls, as high as ground level, must be damp- and water-proofed if HPD determines that subsoil conditions on the lot require it. The basement is occupied by one family and does not include boarders. Every room must have at least one window.
Building permits are required for all construction work necessary to finish a basement. Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC permits may also be required depending on the nature of the work which is being completed.
