Structural Engineers specialise in the structure of buildings (foundations, walls and roofs). They provide services whereby they will inspect problems with existing buildings and also help with structural design and calculations for changes.
Often, a structural engineer site visit will be included as standard in an engineers price supposedly to address any perceived unknowns that may not be included in the architectural plans. Architectural plans are a representation of the geometry and material make-up of the the building.
The rough inspection should be made before the insulation is put in. The builder should request this inspection.
While there may be some overlap in the services provided by these two entities, the primary difference is that a structural foundation engineer is focused on the design and assessment of structures, including foundations, while a foundation repair company is focused on repairing and stabilizing existing foundations.
This is the last quality control check that is done before a product is shipped out. It allows you to catch any quality control issues that may have been missed earlier in the manufacturing process. A final inspection is usually done on products that are mass-produced, such as clothing, electronics, or toys.
Theyll look for cracks in the walls or ceilings, uneven floors, jammed windows, and moisture or mold within a crawl space. Theyll check the pipes for leaks. Finally, theyll also check the substructure supports to ensure they are level and theres no buckling.
You can use a level or straight-edge to test for plumb foundation walls and a level slab, a level or a ball to check for sloping floors inside your home, and a hygrometer to look for moisture in your underhome area.
The engineer will examine the integrity of the walls, floors, and ceilings in search of gaps, cracks, bowing, and sinking. Foundation inspections may also include examination of a households plumbing, which often sustains damage if the foundation is cracked.
