A hybrid of the make‐to‐order (MTO) and make‐to‐stock (MTS) production strategies, manufacturers launch major product models to a demand forecast (MTS) and then modify the partially completed products as the actual orders arrive (MTO), a production strategy we refer to as make‐to‐forecast (MTF).
End-to-end order management is the process of managing an entire order from start to finish. It involves everything from the initial customer request, to product selection and ordering, payment processing, shipping and delivery, and post-sales customer service.
Make to Stock (MTS) is a conventional production technique wherein producers produce commodities on a large scale in ance with anticipated consumer demand. MTS requires companies to keep an inventory of finished goods so that they can be delivered to the customer at the time of purchase itself.
This process is called order management, which is basically keeping track of customers orders and handling the steps involved with fulfilling them. The process generally consists of accepting the order; picking, packing, and shipping the items mentioned in the order; and finally tracking them until they get delivered.
Configure-to-order (CTO) refers to a production process in which a product is customized based on specific customer requirements. The customer orders the product with certain specifications or features, and the manufacturer builds the product to match those specifications.
MTO and MTS are two common production strategies that determine how you fulfill customer orders. MTO means that you produce goods only after receiving a specific order from a customer, while MTS means that you produce goods in advance and store them in inventory until a customer orders them.
MTO allows for the customization of manufactured items from pre-designed components. The third type of production system is Assemble to Order or ATO. ATO is a system in which already manufactured parts and components are kept in stock and assembled as directed by customer order.
Finished To Order (FTO) In instances where the demand of finished product is inadequate, keeping a stock of the semi-finished product could be more beneficial. This creates the case for deployment of FTO where stocks of semi-finished products are maintained at strategic point(s) in the supply chain.
