How to write a grant proposal Include a cover letter. A cover letter acts as an introduction to the grant proposal. Include an executive summary. Describe a statement of need. List objectives and goals. Describe methods and strategies. Detail a plan of evaluation. Include a budget. Detail organizational information.
Write one or two more paragraphs that are very brief and succinct. State your organizations purpose and how it fits with the funders mission or funding priorities. Include the fact that your board of directors is in full support of the project. End your letter with a final, summarizing paragraph.
Format the proposal so that it is easy to read. Use headings to break the proposal up into sections. If it is long, include a table of contents with page numbers.
Strategies for Standing Out on Grant Applications Ensure your nonprofit aligns with their values. Double-check the requirements. Get to know the funding organization. Follow the grant application instructions. Check out their list of grantees. Create a strong impact statement.
Guidelines often do not mention a table of contents, but it is helpful to your readers to include one. Omit this if your proposal is very short, or under five pages, which typically happens in a pre-proposal or some proposals to private foundations.
