The difference is the compiler settings. Release is much more optimized, resulting in faster and smaller code, but is harder to debug since some source code statements may be removed/rearranged. Variables may be optimized out entirely. I would use Debug exclusively unless performance becomes an issue.
Surface finish refers to a surfaces texture. A vital component in ensuring the successful creation of manufactured parts, surface finishes are outlined within engineering drawings to ensure that parts fit together tightly.
By default, Debug and Release configurations are included in projects that are created by using Visual Studio templates. A Debug configuration supports the debugging of an app, and a Release configuration builds a version of the app that can be deployed.
Visual Studio projects have separate release and debug configurations for your program. You build the debug version for debugging and the release version for the final release distribution. In debug configuration, your program compiles with full symbolic debug information and no optimization.
The basic surface finish symbol is a check mark with the point resting on the surface to be specified. Variations of this symbol provide additional instructions as described in the table below. Numbers near the basic surface finish symbol are used to provide different surface finish parameters.
Click Insert Surface Finish. The GET SYMBOL menu appears. Select one of the following: Select one of these from the INST ATTACH menu: Respond to the prompts for the commands you have selected. Specify a value for the surface roughness.
Code::Blocks defines two default build targetsdebug and release at the time of a project creation. As the name suggests a debug target is suitable for app debugging. Appropriate compiler options are added to generate debugging symbols in the compiled app. It also disables all program optimizations.
