Theres a pretty wide range for how to make a proxy. Some people just write the name and abilities on a piece of paper covering a reversed card in a sleeve, some write the name of a card on the back of a bulk card like basic lands, and many people just print out the card in question.
Proxy Cards or Proxies are printed or handmade placeholders for real cards created for testing purposes. Proxy cards are not legal for play in any sanctioned tournament but are often used in small testing groups to give players the opportunity to test a card without having that card in their collection.

And select whichever version of the card we like best.
The cards are always made with a blue inner core, so the light shining through should either be white or bluish. Rebacks will have an extra layer of glue that blocks light, and old proxies wont let much light through, or the light will be tinted orange.
Step 1: Find Images. You can google for images of the cards you want to make proxies for. Step 2: Inkscape. Inkscape is what I use to layout the images. Step 3: Templates. Are proxy basic lands legal in Magic The Gathering? Proxy basic lands are only legal if a judge has issued them to replace a card that was damaged during play. Player-made proxies and proxies issued for any other reason are considered illegal.
For playtesting. Proxy cards allow a player to test new cards, before they decide to actually buy or trade for them. In card prototyping. Card developers in companies like Wizards of the Coast use proxies to playtest their ideas for new cards before they are printed.
When a judge creates a proxy, it is included in the players deck and must be denoted as a proxy clearly and conspicuously. The original card is kept nearby during the match and replaces the proxy while in a public zone as long as it is recognizable.
