Let Pre-Stain Conditioner dry at least 30 minutes, but no longer than 2 hours before applying stain, in ideal conditions: 70F/20C; 50-70% humidity. Do not wait longer than 2 hours, and never let Pre-Stain Conditioner dry overnight before applying a stain over it.
Surface prep: sand at 320 grit using orbital, wipe using rubbing alcohol to remove wood dust, repeat until smooth. Pre-stain wood conditioner: stir well, apply using foam brush, wipe using dry rag to remove excess, wait a few minutes, wipe with wet rag, wipe with dry rag.
After applying the conditioner, let it dry for 10-20 minutes before applying the wood stain. How many coats of pre-stain conditioner should I apply? One coat is all that needed to prepare the wood for staining.
When preparing wood for stain, youll need to sand its surface. Use a sanding sponge or orbital sander. Sandpaper with a lower grit number will make wood rougher, allowing more stain to absorb and creating a darker color. Start with 120-grit sandpaper for pieces that already have a finish.
Specifically designed to use before staining to help prevent streaking and blotching and help ensure a beautiful, even stain. Quickly dries in 15 minutes to minimize project time. Can be applied over any wood but is especially necessary when working with soft or porous woods like pine, alder, birch, and maple.
Staining before assembly prevents glue from getting on the wood surface which tends to seal out stains and produce uneven color. Staining first also ensures complete stain coverage, especially in hard-to-docHub areas.
