Wood stain is a type of finish that is used to color wood and protect it from the elements. It penetrates the wood and provides long-lasting protection while also enhancing its natural appearance with an array of hues.
Brushes, rollers and sprayers will allow for different application methods in a variety of environments. Thin mil plastic poly sheeting can protect your work area, stop overspray and simplify cleanup.
Because it permeates the wood, it is a finish that makes it extremely water-resistant. Easy to apply and maintain, Stain does not come off, since it is absorbed by the wood and does not form a layer of a protective film. Its uses are similar to varnishes and are also widely used in roofs.
Quality stains penetrate the wood grain, preventing moisture from soaking into the wood and causing rot. Staining wood and then adding a clear coat on top can also be a great way to protect window frames, wood siding, and doors, while also minimizing maintenance to only having to maintain the clear coat itself.

And as you wipe or brush it on the pigments in the stains stick to the wood surface. And get caught in the pores.
Because stain seeps into the wood, its more protective than a coat of paint, which is a coating that simply sits on the top of the wood. Solid stains look almost identical to paint but are more protective of the wood because they seep into the porous wood fibers.
With growing demands both in quality as well as properties finishing techniques can be divided into three different parts: Temporary Finish. Semi-durable Finish. Permanent Finish.
Let water-based stains dry for two to three hours and oil-based stains for four to six hours before applying a polyurethane sealer. The best way to get a smooth finish is to apply the first coat of sealer, let it dry, and then lightly sand the surface with 220-grit sandpaper before applying a second coat.
